A word from Pastor Kim!

Please note that I now have a church email address! You can reach me at kim@fpcno.org

“OFFICE HOURS” AROUND TOWN

One of my commitments in my weekly work schedule is to have some “office hours” at a place outside the church building. Sometimes people are more comfortable talking with a pastor outside of the walls of a church. It may be a time for you to drop by or to bring a friend to visit. You don't have to have a particular need to stop by, but it is fine if you do.

It’s a time for conversation on anything from personal matters to church concerns to world peace – or anything else.

It is also a good way for me to meet people who aren't already in the church and a way to pay attention to what is going on in the community around us. For example, I have observed that despite the racial mix of the city, there is division in who is sitting together in the cafes I have visited. When I do this, I am your face in the community, always open to where connections may be made between the congregation and the community around us.

Pastor Kim’s  “office” hours:

  • Tuesday, July 18 – 7-9am                       Rue De La Course (S. Carrollton & Oak St.)
  • Wednesday, July 19 – 2-4pm                First Presbyterian Church
  • Thursday, July 20 – 9-11am                   French Truck Café (4536 Dryades St.)

Children’s Sunday School for the summer will begin after the sermon each Sunday.

It is also a good way for me to meet people who aren't already in the church, but who may have interest in issues of spirituality and meaning. I will be your face in the community when I do this. These times will be published in the bulletin each week, as will office hours held in the church building. I am looking forward to getting to know each one of you.

Worship Bulletin - June 25, 2017 Sermon “Whose Sword is That?” elder, Steven Strength

First Presbyterian Church new pastor is coming

Rev. Kim Rodrigue 1st day in the office will be Tuesday, June 27 and her 1st sermon will be Sunday, July 2. You are welcome to come by and introduce yourself to our new pastor before Sunday, I am sure she would love to get to know you before her first preaching.

Rev. Kim Rodrigue is a native New Orleanian, born at the old Baptist Hospital and reared in Lakeview and Metairie. She came from a family with a Presbyterian mother, Roman Catholic father, Southern Baptist grandmother, and Jewish grandfather. Somehow the Presbyterian part won out! She was a member of Metairie Ridge throughout childhood. She graduated from Grace King High School, Rhodes College in Memphis, TN (with a major in International Studies), and Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, VA. Since then, she has served churches in Nashville, Washington, DC, and Arlington, VA. Rev. Rodrigue has also worked at the Presbyterian Conference Center in New Mexico and served as a hospital chaplain in Nashville.

Rev. Rodrigue enjoys working with many different sorts of people and helping them identity their common focus and passion. She also likes hiking, traveling, reading, cooking, and cheering for the New Orleans Saints.

Rev. Rodrigue is married to Ann Philbrick, also a Presbyterian minister. They have a handsome and sweet dog named Boudreaux.

She says she is excited to begin ministry with you at the end of this month!

Give Nola Day, Tuesday, May 2, 2017 - GiveNOLA Day is a 24-hour, online giving event organized by the Greater New Orleans Foundation to ignite the giving community in Southeast Louisiana. The goal is to inspire the community to come together for 24 hours to contribute as many charitable dollars as possible to support the work of local nonprofit organizations. Last year’s event raised $4 million from 28,000+ donations across the nation. This year, we hope to do even more! GiveNOLA Day is based on other successful giving days hosted by community foundations across the country.

Why give on May 2nd through GiveNOLA.org? - While we encourage you to support your local nonprofits with year-round giving, we are creating a special event on May 2 – a charitable holiday. It’s our day to celebrate the Greater New Orleans region's spirit of generosity and support the work of our nonprofits. Plus, your dollars during the 24-hour period will be amplified by proportional “lagniappe funds,” as well as possible awards and hourly prizes.
