In collaboration with New Orleans Council for Community & Justice, we're hosting a movie screening of the documentary ‘13th’ in the sanctuary followed by a discussion afterwards as to how to move forward in the world doing good and resisting the draconian/fascist policies of the current administration. The film is based around the enforcement of the 13th Amendment, which formally abolished slavery, except as punishment for a crime. The documentary ‘13th’ explores the intersection of race, justice, and mass incarceration. It analyzes the criminalization of African Americans and the US prison boom. First Presbyterian Church members in the 2017 Carnival parades

This Sunday, Feb. 19 our very own Carrie Fisher will be marching with the Dames de Perlage Marching Krewe. She will be dressed as “Saint Caroline with the piano bar”. When you see her scream and she will try to give you some trinkets. They proudly call themselves “Ladies of Beadwork” as they show off their hand-sewn costumes during Carnival in New Orleans. The Dames work year-round beading their corsets and making elaborate beaded and feathered headdresses. This year, the Dames are marching in four parades: Freret, King Arthur, Oak, and Tucks. King Arthur, 3rd parade of 4 total on Sunday so plan to stay a while! First parade that day Femme Fatale (11am) Carrollton (noon) then King Arthur rolls at 1pm followed by Alla. They  are behind float #21 King Arthur. If you tell her where to look for you she will l keep an eye out.  They  march in a certain formation but she might be able to move from sidewalk to neutral ground. Next weekend they march in the Tucks parade stay tuned for our float position.

Also, this Sunday, Feb. 19 our very own Peter Cho will be riding with the Krewe of ALLA again this year.  Alla is the last parade of the morning, and start around 2:00 pm. Peter will be on the next to last float, the Frankenstein float, and is on the Passenger (Sidewalk) side, top of the float, first person. If you see him, yell, and he will try to hit you with some good throws. Happy Mardi Gras everyone!!!

Saturday, Feb. 25 @ 12:00pm, our very own Ken Allen will be riding in the Krewe of Tucks parade, Champagne float # 22, 1st person lower level, neutral ground side.  Let him know you are there and scream. Ken will drown you with lots of trinkets.
