  • Thursday, Dec. 22, 6:30pm – Blue Christmas service to minister to those who are mourning, suffering or feeling Blue this Christmas season.  RSVP would be helpful to know how many people to expect. This will be a short service, between 30 and 45 minutes in the session room.
  • Saturday, Dec. 24, 6pm-7pm -First Presbyterian Church Christmas Eve Service.
  • Sunday, Dec. 25, 10am – First Presbyterian and Metropolitan Church joint Christmas Day Service in the sanctuary. All are welcome to come.
  • Monday, Tuesday, Dec.26, 27 - Church office CLOSED.
  • Thursday, Dec. 29, 4pm, Living Nativity - All ages are encouraged to attend this event where we remember the birth of Jesus, the visitation of the Shepherds, and the arrival of the Wise Men in an accelerated version of the Christmas story. Costumes are available in various sizes for all ages: Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, Shepherds, Angels, Wise Men, (pets are welcome too,) as we re-enact the manger scene.  This year, we are scheduling the Nativity after "Christmas Day" in hope that people will be more relaxed, available, and ready to celebrate the birth of Christ and enjoy the liturgical season of the 12 days of Christmas.

Your poinsettia/s will be available for pick up on Christmas Eve after the Candlelight service. Greening of the Sanctuary. Join us next Sunday, December 4th at 11 am for a completely festive time as we all decorate the sanctuary for Christmas and hear the story of Jesus in word and song.

CAROLING, CAROLING, ON WE GO! - Sunday ,Dec. 18th at 5:00 pm meet at the back door of the church on S. Prieur St. to go caroling with the handbells through the neighborhood.  Each person carries one of the 8 bells and a special book with very easy notations for ringing and singing.  Anyone who can read (words) can ring a bell!  It’s perfect for the musically inclined as well those lesser so.  We also need people to hold the flashlights and ring doorbells, and sleigh bells.  Wear a Santa hat if you have one, and dress warmly.  It’s typically the coldest night of the year!   Church Christmas party (pot luck) immediately following at the Capasso's home.

Worship Bulletin November 13, 2016, Sermon: “The Music of the Cross” Rev. Crawford Brubaker

This Sunday, Nov. 13, We Welcome Our Guest Pastor      

Rev. Crawford Brubaker and his wife Layne moved down to New Orleans from New Jersey after graduating from Princeton Theological Seminary with their Masters of Divinity (2009) and Masters of Theology (2010). Coming back down to New Orleans was somewhat of a homecoming for Crawford as he attended Tulane from 2001-2005 where he graduated with a B.A. in philosophy. Before coming to Lakeview Crawford served as a chaplain at Ochsner and East Jefferson General Hospital where he ministered on a diverse array of units including the intensive care unit, the adult and geriatric psychiatric units, the neonatal intensive care unit, and the skilled nursing/rehab unit. On April 1st, 2012, Crawford was ordained at St. Charles Ave. Presbyterian Church as a Minister of Word and Sacrament. While enjoying his time serving as a chaplain - Crawford is happy to be serving the community here at Lakeview Presbyterian Church as he focuses his ministry on children, youth, and young adults through Christian Education.

The Fellowship Hall will be CLOSED to all activities from Thursday, Nov. 10 – Saturday, Nov. 19 for floor renovation.

Worship Bulletin November 6, 2016, A Moment for History “Mission, Ministry and Music” 100th Birthday Celebration of our Opus 635 (1916) Austin Organ

You are cordially invited to the 100th Birthday Celebration of our Opus 635 (1916) Austin Organ. The magnificent instrument has been in continual use for the past 100 years with interruptions only due to being moved to a new church location in 1938, and to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. 

The Organ Centennial Celebration will take place during the 11am Worship Service this Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016 with a reception immediately following.  All are welcome.

Gregory A. Nussel, a former organist for the church, is coming from San Antonio, Texas to play the service.  While a resident of the New Orleans area, Mr. Nussel served many churches, including positions with First Presbyterian, All Saints Episcopal in River Ridge, and, following Hurricane Katrina, Interim Organist at Christ Church Cathedral.  He has enjoyed a variety of church assignments during his 46 years of playing.

The Fellowship Hall will be CLOSED to all activities from Thursday, Nov. 10 – Saturday, Nov. 19 for floor renovation.

The Trompette en Chamade was added on the rear wall of the sanctuary at a later date.

After his retirement from federal government service in New Orleans, with his wife Vanessa, he relocated to San Antonio, Texas where he remains active in church music, playing each Sunday at Epiphany Anglican Church, but also playing a wide diversity of other assignments in Episcopal, Lutheran, Anglican and Methodist Churches. The service will feature music, both sung and played, and should be a joyous occasion to celebrate this 100th birthday of the “King of Instruments”, Austin Opus 635.
