Worship Bulletin April 10, 2016, Easter Sunday - Sermon "Who ARE You, Lord?" Rev. Fred J. Powell

ANNOUNCEMENTS

About the Affirmation for this Sunday, April 10, 2016

The Confession of 1993, (Presbyterian Church of New Zealand) - This affirmation of faith speaks in ‘triads’ that reflect our trinitarian theology. While the Presbyterian Church was established in New Zealand in 1840, since then it has moved from being a Church for white, Scottish settlers to an ethnically diverse Church that integrates orthodoxy with a respect for the gifts of South Pacific culture and reverence for creation which is very much a part of “Aotearoa”  (The native Maori name for New Zealand.) This affirmation of faith seeks not only to answer the question “Who ARE You, Lord?”, but to tie together the work of God-with-us, and identify the gifts that God gives us through faith.

The Passion of Christ: A New Orleans Musical!!

Fox Broadcasting will host this national broadcast on air live from Waldenberg Park in New Orleans on Palm Sunday evening, March 20, 2016 8-10 PM. Hosted and narrated by New Orleans native, Tyler Perry, it will tell the story of the last hours of Jesus Christ, featuring a cast of top entertainers performing popular tunes arranged by music producer Adam Anders (Glee, Rock of Ages.) Set in modern day, The Passion will follow Jesus as he presides over the Last Supper, betrayed by Judas, put on trial by Pontius Pilate, convicted, crucified and resurrected. The story will be performed live on stage at the Mississippi River, while featuring a procession of hundreds of people carrying a 20-foot, illuminated cross from the Superdome to the live stage at Waldenberg Park. First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans has been invited to have a tent at Waldenberg also.

Would you like to help stage the Passion? "The Passion of Christ: the Musical" (which Fox is broadcasting live from New Orleans on March 20th) has a pressing need for some volunteers, to carry the enormous cross that will be used during the production. Carrying a 20 foot, 650-pound cross through the streets of New Orleans from the Superdome to Waldenberg Park is quite an undertaking. They are looking for 100 volunteers to walk the route, taking turns carrying the cross. If you are available to help on March 20, contact Pastor Fred Powell. They are also seeking short (filmed) interviews with people from all kinds of backgrounds, beliefs, ages, and races to represent New Orleans. They are interested in people who have a powerful story and who have a very personal reason for walking in the procession.

Daylight Savings Time – Sunday, March 13 (remember to set your clocks ahead 1 hour, spring forward).

Worship Bulletin February 14, 2016 - Sermon "Love, God" Rev. Fred J. Powell

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Passion of Christ: A New Orleans Musical!!  - Fox Broadcasting will host this national broadcast on air live from Waldenburg Park in New Orleans on Palm Sunday evening, March 20, 2016 8-10 PM. Would you like to help stage the Passion? "The Passion of Christ: the Musical" (which Fox is broadcasting live from New Orleans on March 20th) has a pressing need for some volunteers, most likely on February 17th to practice carrying the enormous cross that will be used during the production. (The city still needs to confirm this date). Carrying a 20 foot, 650-pound cross through the streets of New Orleans from the Superdome to Waldenburg Park is quite an undertaking, plus figuring out timing for a LIVE broadcast in March needs to be practiced. They are looking for 50 volunteers to walk the route on Wednesday, February 17th from 7-9pm, taking turns carrying the cross (again, city still needs to confirm this date). This will not be filmed; it is a trial run. If you are available to help, contact Pastor Fred Powell.

They are also seeking short (filmed) interviews with people from all kinds of backgrounds, beliefs, ages, and races to represent New Orleans. They are interested in people who have a powerful story and who have a very personal reason for walking in the procession.

The meetings are open to the public and will be held Thursday from 11am to 7 pm and Friday from 11 am to 4 pm. This is not the first time that FPCNO has had a role in changing the course of Presbyterian and US history; FPCNO held the meeting to form the Southern Presbyterian Church here in 1861!
