ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Children’s Sunday School - Sunday, Feb. 28 from 10:15am to 11:00am.
  • Donations of Easter “filled eggs” for the EASTER EGG HUNT – Please keep in mind to buy candy that will not soften inside of the plastic eggs.
  • The Passion of Christ: A New Orleans Musical!! Fox Broadcasting will host this national broadcast on air live from Waldenburg Park in New Orleans on Palm Sunday evening, March 20, 2016 8-10 PM. Hosted and narrated by New Orleans native, Tyler Perry, it will tell the story of the last hours of Jesus Christ, featuring a cast of top entertainers performing popular tunes arranged by music producer Adam Anders (Glee, Rock of Ages.) Set in modern day, The Passion will follow Jesus as he presides over the Last Supper, betrayed by Judas, put on trial by Pontius Pilate, convicted, crucified and resurrected. The story will be performed live on stage at the Mississippi River, while featuring a procession of hundreds of people carrying a 20-foot, illuminated cross from the Superdome to the live stage at Waldenburg Park. First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans has been invited to have a tent at Waldenburg also.
  • Would you like to help stage the Passion? "The Passion of Christ: the Musical" (which Fox is broadcasting live from New Orleans on March 20th) has a pressing need for some volunteers, to carry the enormous cross that will be used during the production. Carrying a 20 foot, 650-pound cross through the streets of New Orleans from the Superdome to Waldenburg Park is quite an undertaking. They are looking for 100 volunteers to walk the route, taking turns carrying the cross. If you are available to help on March 20, contact Pastor Fred Powell. They are also seeking short (filmed) interviews with people from all kinds of backgrounds, beliefs, ages, and races to represent New Orleans. They are interested in people who have a powerful story and who have a very personal reason for walking in the procession.

Then we will gather for a short communion service in the sanctuary at 6.45.

Worship Bulletin February 14, 2016 - Sermon "Love, God" Rev. Fred J. Powell

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Passion of Christ: A New Orleans Musical!!  - Fox Broadcasting will host this national broadcast on air live from Waldenburg Park in New Orleans on Palm Sunday evening, March 20, 2016 8-10 PM. First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans has been invited to have a tent at Waldenburg also.

Would you like to help stage the Passion? "The Passion of Christ: the Musical" (which Fox is broadcasting live from New Orleans on March 20th) has a pressing need for some volunteers, most likely on February 17th to practice carrying the enormous cross that will be used during the production. (The city still needs to confirm this date). Carrying a 20 foot, 650-pound cross through the streets of New Orleans from the Superdome to Waldenburg Park is quite an undertaking, plus figuring out timing for a LIVE broadcast in March needs to be practiced. They are looking for 50 volunteers to walk the route on Wednesday, February 17th from 7-9pm, taking turns carrying the cross (again, city still needs to confirm this date). This will not be filmed; it is a trial run. If you are available to help, contact Pastor Fred Powell.

They are also seeking short (filmed) interviews with people from all kinds of backgrounds, beliefs, ages, and races to represent New Orleans. They are interested in people who have a powerful story and who have a very personal reason for walking in the procession.

Children’s Sunday School - Will be held on Feb. 28 from 10:15am to 11:00am.

This General Assembly committee is where the big hot-button issues this June will be discussed: Will the PCUSA divest its stock holding in companies that are alleged to be committing war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank? There are many who feel that doing so will put the state of Israel in jeopardy, and many others who feel that not to do so is serious lapse in moral and ethical judgement. The meetings are open to the public and will be held Thursday from 11am to 7 pm and Friday from 11 am to 4 pm. This is not the first time that FPCNO has had a role in changing the course of Presbyterian and US history; FPCNO held the meeting to form the Southern Presbyterian Church here in 1861! Let us pray that we can help foster the cause of justice and mercy in 2016!
