REMINDER: Session meeting today after worship

Today, We welcome our soon to be neighbors, Planned Parenthood of New Orleans. They will present a minute for mission this morning. Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast is building a new health center on South Claiborne.  Planned Parenthood is a trusted quality health care provider which has been operating a health center on Magazine Street for thirty years.   The new health center is scheduled to open in 2015 and will provide well women exams, testing for STIs and HIV, cancer screenings and other related reproductive health services.   In addition to health care services, Planned Parenthood provides age appropriate health education, parent education and healthy pregnancy education.  Planned Parenthood is a community partner with many health and education programs.  For more information email robin.barber@ppgulfcoast.org 

Nominating Committee Elected - At last Sunday’s congregational meeting, the following people were elected to help select 2 new elders and 2 new deacons for the class of 2017. Carrie Fisher, Tracy Rene’ Helms-Capasso, Deacon: KC Carmichael and Elder: Chris Roberts, as well as Pastor Fred Powell (ex officio, no vote) will also serve.  Please let these folks know of people who you would like to lead you!

Uptown Thanksgiving Service! - This festive service of thanksgiving and praise will take place at Rayne Memorial Methodist Church at 3900 St. Charles Ave on Tuesday, November 25th at 7 pm. For our FPCNO singers, the massed choir will be singing John Rutter’s “For the Beauty of the Earth” and will be practicing at 6.00 pm in the sanctuary.    

Thursday, November 27th, Thanksgiving Day Jefferson Presbyterian Church 4451 E. Falk Pl. in Jefferson, La. Will be serving Thanksgiving Dinner at noon and everyone who needs a place to eat is invited. (dine in dinner or carry-out sandwich option). Jefferson Presbyterian is located straight down S. Claiborne and becomes Jefferson Hwy. The church is on the bus route at Newman Ave, bus stop.

ADULT ADVENT STUDY - We will be offering a brand new class for adults during Advent. The class will follow a program called “Pausing on the Road to Bethlehem: a spiritual journey through Advent”. This is not a traditional Advent study, but will be an exciting new venture in adult studies. It is an interactive program for participants, with Bible passages related to the Birth Story, group activities with reflections using poetry, music, and art; and prayer, both traditional and meditative. There will also be suggestions for take- home activities. The classes will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sunday evenings during Advent, starting Sunday, November 30. All are welcome! A children’s track will be offered as well. If you are interested in finding out more about the class, pick one of the flyers in the Narthex on Sunday mornings.

Special Communion Sunday Food Donation - The food collected at worship on Sunday, December 7 (Communion Sunday) will go to the Westbank Second Harvest Foodbank, because they are having a hard time getting enough to feed those in need there. Please donate generously.
