Commissioning Service to call Rev. Kimberly Rodrique to ministry at First Presbyterian Church

Please join the Friends and Members of the Congregation

of First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans

for a very special

Commissioning Service to call Rev. Kimberly Rodrique to ministry at First Presbyterian Church

Sunday, September 3rd at 2:00pm in the Sanctuary

followed by a

Labor Day-themed Reception

Please save the date for this special day in the life of the church as we gather to turn the next page for First Pres. This event will be extra special as Rev. Jan Edmiston will lead the service. Rev. Edmiston is the co-moderator of the 222nd General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Serving as a pastor, a theologian, and a writer, Rev. Edmiston is a bold but calming voice in the life of the Presbyterian Church in particular, but also in the wider Christian Church across the U.S. She’s served in churches from New York State to Virginia to Illinois, and currently serves as associate executive presbyter for ministry in the Presbytery of Chicago.

Her blog, A Church for Starving Artists, examines the life of Christians today, pursuing the changes and challenges facing churches and leaders as they strive to minister to a hungry world. She has been an active voice for social justice as well as in the area of church revitalization and new church development. She co-moderates the 222nd General Assembly along with her good friend Rev. Denise Anderson, a term that will conclude in 2018. The General Assembly is the ruling body of the Presbyterian Church and is typically led by a moderator and vice-moderator chosen every two years. This was the first time the General Assembly elected co-moderators and the first time an all-female slate was chosen.

*The 2pm service will be the only service at First Presbyterian on September 3rd and everyone is encouraged to come enjoy this special afternoon service as we welcome guests and make Pastor Kim’s position here with us official.

Service music to be provided by May Ball on First Presbyterian’s 100-year old Opus 635 (1916) Austin Organ.
