First Presbyterian Pianist Amanda Wadsworth will be accompanying the Symphony Chorus of New Orleans: Street Requiem, "This is not only beautiful music, but also is a very powerful presentation concerning the plight of people living on the street."
Street Requiem (2014) was composed in Melbourne, Australia, by Kathleen McGuire, Andy Payne and Jonathon Welch in order to impact homelessness through the arts.
The complete ten-movement work will be performed on Thursday, November 2, 7:30 p.m. at Academy of the Sacred Heart Nims Center, 4301 St. Charles Ave. The music will be interspersed with testimonials of those that have lifted themselves out of homelessness into a positive living experience.
"Symphony Chorus of New Orleans, along with the Delgado Community College Chorus, will perform this concert in an effort to bring a sense of peace, remembrance and hope to those struggling to come to terms with poverty, mental illness, and violence on the streets of New Orleans," according to Music Director, Steven Edwards.
