We are saddened and shocked by the flooding that has ravaged our beloved Presbytery. We have lived through severe flooding, and our hearts ache for everyone that has been touched by the rising water. As we read in the scripture yesterday about the "great cloud of witnesses" we are here with you, celebrating the rescues and mourning the losses of homes and property, lifting up the rescuers in prayer and wanting to help. As the days go on, we will be seeking more concrete actions as our Presbytery begins to rebuild.
The Men of the Church took a well deserved break from building and grounds upkeep to took a trip to play mini golf at City Park's new course, City Putt! Men's night is usually once a month. The men can be unpredictable, so it's best to subscribe to the chuch's Yahoo Group email chain to stay informed of spur of the moment events. So much sadness. How can I post a friendly update about worship this Sunday without commenting on the tragedy in Nice? These are hard times, and having a foundation of faith with a loving church family can be a source of support and reassurance.
This Sunday as we welcome long time church friend Laurence M. Hamric, J.D., M.Div. to the pulpit as our speaker.
Kathy Crighton will preside over the installation of our new officers, Diane Kleinfeldt, Zane Fisher, and Tracy Rene Helms-Capasso as Ruling Elders on the Session and Linda Wilson as a new Deacon.
Thank you to Justin Wood for being the guest speaker this past Sunday. What a wonderful sermon about the Good Samaritan and a timely scripture for all Christians following the common lectionary.
We hope to see our members, friends and new faces as well this Sunday at 11am before everyone rushes back to celebrating our nation's independence with a patriotic pool parties, barbecues and concerts with fireworks! It's going to be a joyful service with some patriotic hymns and wonderful music. We will be bidding our friends from First Presbyterian Church Greeneville, TN farewell with special refreshments after the service.
We are delighted to host Rev. Greg Cartwright, the Associate Pastor for Families at First Presbyterian Church Greeneville, TN as our guest preacher yesterday and this coming Sunday as well. Greg and his own family love New Orleans, having lived here for years before being called to Greeneville. He is here for two weeks leading a mission group which is working on projects around our church as well as working with other charitable organizations around New Orleans.

A big thank you to our guest pastor this morning, the Rev. Claire Brooks, who is retired from Chinese Presbyterian Church in Kenner. She is the chairperson of the Board of Directors of Evergreen Life Services, which serves over 1,300 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities offering a wide range of community-based services designed to not only meet basic needs, but also teach life skills and help each individual reach his or her own personal potential.
