On this fifth anniversary of Katrina, I, Nieta Nunn, widow of the pastor at the time, Cliff Nunn, am writing a few memories of that event. Cliff and I were planning to ride out the storm, as we usually did, but during the early morning of Aug.
Join us on Saturday night for a shared commemorative fellowship as we recognize the 10th Anniversary of Katrina and the Levee Failures.
All are welcome! This event is open to all whether you lived here before Katrina or not, whether you flooded or not, or whether you mourn what we've lost or celebrate what we've gained.
The FUNdraising Team has been taking a bit of a summer break, but with this lovely cooler weather we are getting back to work! We are pleased to report that we have secured one of the largest items on our list - a commercial refrigerator! One of our donors provided their gift early and we were able to select, purchase, and install it. And it's a beauty!
First Pres Elder and mother of two, Tracy Rene Helms-Capasso, is forming a greater New Orleans youth fellowship among the New Orleans area Presbyterian Churches. She is excited about making this a reality to offer area kids the same positive experience she had as a teen. The first event will be a pool party for kids in grades 6-12 on Saturday, August 8 from 1-4.
What are Tracy Rene's initial ideas and goals for this group?
In this issue:
- Remembering Murray.
- Rummage Sale.
- How is that kitchen coming along?
During our regular 11 am worship service on Sunday, July 19th, 2015 you are invited participate in a “Celebration of Music and Thanksgiving for the Life of Murray Brashears", who died March 10, 2015 here in New Orleans. Murray was a staunch, life long Presbyterian and an enthusiastic supporter of this church, as well as a husband, father and grandfather.
In anticipation of a positive outcome towards marriage equality by the Supreme Court this month, the Southern Decadence organization is hosting New Orleans's first wedding show for the LGBTQ community. First Presbyterian will be attending and showcasing our beautiful sanctary and fellowship hall to prospective brides and grooms.
Our amazing FUNdraising committee executed a brilliant marketing plan last night, and we are just delighted with the results. For over a decade our church has been welcoming to all couples seeking a church wedding, and we maintained a modest presence in print and web advertising.
